Hard-shelled War Mongers and Clansmen: On the Vossk Empire’s Attempts to Rule the Neox Sector [DEV BLOG #7]
An alien race of four-eyed insectoids of superhuman size and strength, the Vossks’ outer appearance is almost as grim and frightening as their nature. But what would you expect from a folk that uses its infertiles as cannon fodder and sends its own youth on suicide missions? In the militant worldview of the Vossk, however, none of these things are immoral. For them, bravery in battle is the highest value and cowardice before the enemy the greatest shame – a gridlocked attitude on which their entire society is grounded. Distrusting and abhorring all other species, they get their war machinery rolling at the slightest provocation. But their lust for battle is not reserved for outsiders only. As a matter of fact, wars among differing Vossk tribes are almost as common as attacks on fleets or outposts of other races. As soon as an individual shows the slightest sign of weakness, it has to redeem itself in a trial to the death. After all, they are the ones designing the weapons and ships the empire uses in its on-going struggle for glory.

The third and lowest class are the so-called underlings for whom things are not quite as rosy as they are for the warriors and intellectuals. Regarded as little more than vermin by their conspecifics, these poor souls carve out the miserable existence of slaves, drones and outcasts.
This is the Nisroc, a brand-new Vossk vessel of the scout class. While its green color and insect-like buildup easily identify it as a Vossk ship, its overall shape and design differ quite a bit from the H'soc & Co.
As for the Vossk’s endeavors in Neox, they primarily entered the sector to harvest its abundance of natural riches. As a nation constantly entangled in wars and skirmishes, the Vossk empire’s stock of raw materials is usually as low as its demand for resources is high. So when the leadership heard of this newfound fringe-world that abounds in all kinds of treasures of the soil, they immediately assigned a colonizing fleet with its exploitation. Being comparatively few in number, the forces that arrived at Neox were too thin-spread to claim the entire sector at once. But when action was demanded, they compensated their numbers with ferocity and held their territories unyieldingly. And now that their outposts are established and secured, reinforcements are on the way…
