GOF3 on Android: Where we are and what comes next!
Lately, no other topic has been discussed as vividly by our community as the upcoming Android release of Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore. Every day, eager players turn towards us via Facebook, Reddit or our support system and ask for news on this matter. At this point, we can tell you that the Android roll-out of Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore is in its closing stages – recently, we launched pre-registration for the game on Google Play! If you have not done so already, sign up via http://bit.ly/gof3-android-prereg to receive a notification as soon as our game has landed on the Google Play store!
In the meantime, we want to shed some light on the overall process and give you an idea of what it is like to bring a game as big and advanced as Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore to a platform as diverse and fragmented as Android. So I sat down with our project manager Clemens, who oversees the dedicated team working on the development of the Android version. He filled me in on the current state of affairs.
According to Clemens, the biggest challenge derives from the diversity on the Android platform with more than 15,000 Android devices, most of which have differing screen sizes, resolutions, chipsets, OS versions and capabilities. As Clemens puts it, “The sheer number of devices requires us to do quite a lot of adjustments”. Needless to say, we want Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore to look, play and feel as good on Android phones and tablets as it does on iPhones and iPads. And we want to offer the best-possible experience on the 2017 Android flagship devices that support the next-gen Vulkan graphics standard as well as on older devices utilizing the Open GL ES graphics standard.
Making sure GOF3 runs perfectly on as broad a range of Android devices as possible is not only a challenge for our developers and graphics programmers, but also for our QA testers. After all, they are the ones playing the game again and again on dozens of different smartphones and tablets, keeping an eye on every detail and ensuring everything runs as intended.”
We hope you enjoyed this little update on the upcoming Android version of Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore. We are looking forward to read your comments. If there is any aspect of the development process that you would like to learn more about, let us know in the comments below!
