The Drone that keeps you Company: Embarking on Exploration Flights [Dev Blog #20]

Exploration flights can get a little lonely at times. If you boldly go where no man has ever gone before, there is a good chance you will not make too many acquaintances throughout the course of your journey. You might bump into a squadron of space ships every now and then, but considering how far away from civilization you are, you should not be surprised if the pilots crossing your way will not be too friendly. To make sure you are in good company during your exploration flights in Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore, our designers have created a little companion for you in the form of a helluva cute drone. In today’s dev blog, we want to tell you a bit more about that new friend and helper of yours.

Traversing a particularly dark and dreary orbit of Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore with our trusty lil' friend by our side. Its red color indicates there are no goods near us at the moment.

While traversing the rich orbits of the Neox Sector’s different systems, the loyal drone stays close by your side and helps you locate containers, codex items and blueprint parts. By changing its color to yellow or green, it indicates whether you are on the right track to make a discovery. Once an item is close enough to be collected, the drone highlights it with its implemented spotlight. If you let your attentive companion lead the way, you will never return to the Manticore empty-handed.

When the drone detects something worth picking up, it stays close to its find and highlights it until we fly by and collect it.

The only situation in which the drone is not of much help is during a fight. As soon as a pirate squad appears on the radar, the timorous little fella clears off and waits until you have taken care of the threat. Not being equipped with any weapons systems, the drone definitely is a finder not a fighter. When the orbit is clear and no enemies are in sight, your new friends can also be quite playful. Try tapping the drone for some unexpected and very cute reactions. As always, let us know in the comments if you have already roamed the Neox Sector with the drone by your side and tell us what goodies it helped you to find.

Es wäre cool, wenn man auch Waffen für die Drohne kaufen könnte und sie einen dann im Kampf unterstützt. Natürlich sollte so ein Upgrade nicht zu billig sein.

Uhhhh.... It's good to know that I'll be rolling over pirate squadrons with this adorable little drone and traversing orbits freely. But there's one big problem. The world wide release on any and all devices??? When? Could you at least give me something extremely general, like "hey it's before Christmas" or something?

It should have been released by now - Winter is right around the corner and Autumn is coming to an end. Tobi said they planned to release in Autumn. Did they encounter some new "delays" ?

Come on, when will you release the game?? First, the plan was to release in late Summer of 2016. Then it got delayed to Autumn 2016. Now what? Winter 2016-17? Or Spring 2017?

Why did you decide to remove support for iPad4 and older??? Is there any way I could make it work on iPad3?

I would like to have a range numbers for the drone, direction arrows or more feedback, hours of flight for 4 pieces of equipment with not many clues from the drone doesn't help much.
